Kalpashree K R was born on 25th March 1995 in Yeeragunta, a village in Tumkur district of Karnataka. Her father, Kanthappa Y B, started as a daily wage worker in the Sericulture Department and later became a Revenue Inspector. Her brother, Lakshmikant, serves in the Indian Army and is currently posted in Kashmir. Kalpashree is married to IAS officer Abhishek Gowda M J, from the 2020 batch.
She completed her schooling at Navodaya Vidyalaya and pursued a B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Visveswaraiah Technological University, Belgaum. After graduation, she briefly worked at Wipro, but chose to focus on UPSC preparation.
